Who doesn’t love a good remodel story? This gorgeous kitchen update in Geneseo, IL is beautiful, and the remodel process was resourceful (more on that later)
This kitchen design is Traditional in style and giving us some strong Tuscan detail vibes with the material selections. Maple cabinetry in the Legacy door by Koch Cabinetry is painted in an “Ivory” finish.

The cabinetry has gone from dark with an arched top, to a light and airy updated squared door style. The cooking zone saw a dramatic re-work for style and function. Take a look at this transformation below! The original kitchen was already pretty fantastic… but this glow up? WOW!

Just look at how we opened up the cooking zone in width and height. These homeowners upgraded from a standard 30″ range and microwave hood to a wide, professional Viking range and a wood hood with powerful 500 CFM range hood insert. The wall tile in this kitchen is so gorgeous! 4″ x 8″ “Greenwich Village” tiles create the main kitchen backsplash field. A framed accent tile area above the range includes any pasta-lovers dream, an offset pot-filler faucet. Who wouldn’t love access to water like this?

Centered in the accent area are 8″ x 8″ vintage tin lookalike ceramic tiles from our lead tin series in Gatsby White. The two rows of textured tiles are framed in by a narrow strip tile we call a “listel” tile. This is a rope listel by Questech in a Dark Oil Rubbed Bronze finish. This tile combination and application is so stunning in person. The tin lookalike tile has the look AND feel of a textured tin surface tile.

The finishes in this kitchen are a beautiful blend of an ivory off-white paint, textured tiles, and rich Oil Rubbed Bronze accents. Our best-selling diode undercabinet LED lighting helps to illuminate the wall tile and countertops surfaces in a consistent, low-voltage wash of light. Note that this kitchen was photographed during the day. Daytime, and yet that undercabinet lighting STILL helps to showcase the space in daylight.

A nod to a Tuscan style of this space is the use of Italianate faux-finished columns in this kitchen design. Two columns stretch from the bar-height countertop to the ceiling at the passthrough area dividing the kitchen from the dining room. What a gorgeous detail!

The refrigerator wall has been given an upgraded look as well making the most of the existing space. The original kitchen had a niche area for the refrigerator and a cabinet above. There was also an existing closet/pantry on this wall.

We were able to rework this space to now include a counter-depth paneled refrigerator and a matching cabinet pantry front for the existing pantry opening. In between the two, we added a paneled section to give the illusion of a fully custom built-in area. Take a peek below at the pantry with one of the doors open.

So much storage space for small appliances, household supplies, and even pantry food storage. The lighting in this kitchen is not to be ignored. Above the sink passthrough area hang two pendant lights with Bronze metal and clear, seeded glass by Capital Lighting. A complimenting 3-light fixture hangs above the kitchen island. Remember we hinted at being resourceful with this remodel? Take another look at the first before and after image we shared and see if you can spot what stayed the same…(we will wait right here)… spot it?

The granite countertops! These are the same granite tops on new cabinets! Now let us go on record to say that this is not a typical situation for the layout to stay this similar AND have the granite to survive the removal, storage, and re-install process. But the stars were all alligned for this project. Our thanks to the guys at Surface Resource who make that happen for our customers.
