See Inside This Fifth Wheel Camper Renovation
Meet Griff and Alyssa from Trapped In Paradise TV! This couple spent eight weeks renovating their Keystone Cougar 29RLI into a beautiful farmhouse-on-wheels. They shared some amazing before and after photos, along with the video tour above, of the fifth wheel camper’s incredible transformation.
The kitchen
The kitchen got a fresh new look with peel-and-stick backsplash tiles from Lowe’s. They got rid of the microwave that comes standard from the manufacturer and replaced it with a floating shelf. This opens up the space and provides an easy-to-access storage space.
The original kitchen island didn’t have storage space underneath, and it didn’t provide enough counter space, so it was replaced with a new custom-built kitchen island, thanks to the help from Alyssa’s dad. Their new custom island also has convenient built-in shelves on the side for extra storage.
The countertop was upgraded to a faux butcher block, which was both cost-effective and lighter than real butcher block and the original counter that came with the RV. The sink was upgraded, as well as the lights, with new finds from IKEA.
The dinette is quick and easy to convert into a day bed. They upgraded the seating with handmade cushions created from a memory foam mattress. There is also storage space conveniently hidden beneath each bench.
The entertainment area
The entertainment section originally came with a mounted TV and a fireplace. This was transformed into a coffee and wine bar with a new countertop and freshly painted white storage cabinets for glassware.
The new entertainment area features their 50-inch TV, along with a new wooden countertop and a newly painted storage area.
The couple lives and works from the road, so it was essential to add a comfortable workspace in the rig. They created a custom work desk out of the same wood as the countertops, along with hairpin legs they found on Amazon.
The rig originally came with wood flooring in the middle, but the slides were carpet. They replaced all of it with a click-lock vinyl plank flooring that matches the RV’s modern style perfectly.
The living area
The living area features a CordaRoy bean bag, which can be converted into a queen-size mattress for additional sleeping space. They also removed the doors from some of the storage cabinets to create a stylish decor display.
Another ingenious upgrade was the custom-made window curtains. They used fabric from Hobby Lobby, along with a sewing machine, curtain hangers, leather drawer pulls, and a simple dowel rod.
The bathroom
The bathroom got an impressive new look as well. They painted the walls and added a unique accent with none other than Sharpie! Though you can find some DIY stencils for this project, Alyssa simply hand drew the design, and it looks fantastic.
They also upgraded the bathroom with a new vessel sink, a new faucet, and an all-new shower that was designed to feel like an “outdoor spa.”
The shower got a new rainfall showerhead, as well as new stone tile walls. They removed the glass doors, which were too constricting, and replaced it with a simple shower curtain. The shower was topped off with a custom angled bamboo mat for the floor.
The bedroom
Of course, their fifth wheel camper renovation included a new and improved bedroom. They added a beautiful peel-and-stick backsplash for a headboard. Before the renovation, the bed had a simple wooden frame that was easy to hit their head on.
The bed was also outfitted with new Beddy’s RV zipper bedding. The couple says it is the easiest and most comfortable RV bedding to use. It goes on like a fitted sheet and unzips all the way around.
