I wanted to make an autumn scented beeswax air freshener similar to some I saw at a craft show
They’re pretty simple to make and way cheaper to DIY.
These adorable autumn leaf beeswax air fresheners are perfect for fall! Both a gorgeous decoration and a natural way to freshen your home.
A few days ago, my sister and I were walking around our local craft show. We saw the most adorable hanging beeswax ornaments that carried an inviting cinnamon aroma. They were just beautiful!
I was all ready to grab a few until I saw the prices! Frugality is my middle name, so I knew that I could not afford to buy those beeswax air fresheners even though they were beautifully handcrafted.
Then I remembered: I always have beeswax at home! I knew if I played around, I could make something similar. Later that day I set to work.
How to Make Beeswax Air Fresheners
Beeswax can be an expensive ingredient, so I wanted to conserve it. I added a little coconut oil to my beeswax to add body without making it too soft. I had these little leaf molds on hand, so I decided to make a mini version of the beeswax ornaments that I saw at the craft show. Plus, I love how adorable the different colored leaves look together!
I simply melted the beeswax and coconut oil, then added colored mica to give the leaves a beautiful autumn color palette. Choosing mica powder is always the fun part and I went with deep orange, russet red, emerald green, and golden yellow. The perfect fall color combination!
Scenting the Beeswax Air Freshener
I love the smell of Cinnamon leaf (Cinnamomum verum) essential oil and find it the perfect autumn aroma. To add some extra depth and country flair I also added clove bud (Syzygium aromaticum). These two make a cozy pair and a very warm, comforting scent.
However, I also think a more “woodsy” aroma would be just as beautiful. Try pairing Juniper Berry, Black Spruce, and Cedarwood essential oils for an autumn forest blend.
If you are looking for a sweeter smell, vanilla oleoresin and cinnamon essential oils would be a very yummy pair! You can find all of these essential oils here.
Wax Melts
Instead of using these beeswax air fresheners as decoration, you can also use them as wax melts in your wax warmer.
To do that, I would use 1/8 cup beeswax to 1/4 cup coconut oil instead of the ratio in the recipe below. This will help the tarts melt better, but they will be much softer. Keep this in mind for storage.

They’re pretty simple to make and way cheaper to DIY.
1/2 cup beeswax ((divided into four 1/8 cup servings)) 4 tablespoons coconut oil 1/4 teaspoon mica ((I used yellow, orange, green, and red)) 20 drops cinnamon leaf essential oil ((Cinnamomum verum)) 5 drops clove bud essential oil ((Syzygium aromaticum)) Measure 1/8 cup beeswax and 1 tablespoon coconut oil into glass pyrex measuring cup.
Place in a double boiler over medium heat.
Melt beeswax and coconut oil until liquid. Stir in 1/4 teaspoon mica until fully combined. Drop in 25 drops total of essential oils (I used 20 drops cinnamon and 5 drops clove). Pour carefully into molds. They are really small, so go very slowly! Allow to cool for several minutes, then pop in the freezer to fully cool Remove from the molds and store in an airtight container until you are ready to use them.
To use these autumn leaf beeswax air fresheners, simply place a handful of them in a decorative bowl on your countertop. When the aroma starts to fade, you can melt them down and add more essential oils.
I also love to put some of these beeswax air fresheners in a small muslin bag, then throw them in my drawers as drawer fresheners. They would also make cute additions to potpourri bowls.
