Retailers are already kicking off sales for the holiday weekend, with promotions on major appliances.

Whether youre remodeling your laundry room, your fridge is on the fritz, or you're looking to upgrade an appliance thats seen better days, youll find markdowns advertised at home centers, home-goods stores, and independent retailers.

The thing is, a deal is only a deal if the product in question aces its job. So we set out to compare the advertised sales with our comprehensive ratings for refrigerators, ranges andwashing machines.

As you shop, keep in mind that most major retailers will match a competitor's advertised prices.

So far, we've found decent markdowns on a variety of refrigerators, ranges, and washing machines. Read on for our analysis of the best deals. We'll continue to update this list as more sales are announced.

Best Refrigerator Sales

This weekend is a terrific time to buy a new refrigerator, with discounts upward of 50 percent being offered by retailers. Most deals are on French-door models, but we managed to find good buys in every fridge configuration. Here are six of the best refrigerators deals we found at major appliance stores.

GE French-door refrigerator, 36 inches wide
The deal: $2,000 at Costco; $2,192 to $2,200 at AJ Madison, Appliances Connection, Home Depot, Lowe's, and Best Buy

This GE French-door features a unique through-the-door water dispenser that automatically fills up a glass or pitcher without risking overflow. Other features include dual evaporators and digital controls that show the internal temperature. It performs superbly in our temperature tests and receives a Very Good rating for its low noise output. Costco members can get this fridge for $1,100 off its list price; you pay $200 more at the other retailers above.

Looking for a side-by-side on a budget? This GE model offers great performance. It rates a Very Good for ease of use and comes with plenty of features, including a through-the-door water/ice dispenser, a stainless steel finish, digital controls that show the internal temperature, and spillproof shelving. Its about $500 off its list price at the retailers above.

Kenmore bottom-freezer refrigerator, 33 inches wide
The deal:
$1,100 at Sears
CRs test results: Kenmore Elite 79043
This Kenmore is among the highest-rated bottom-freezers in our ratings. It rates Excellent for temperature uniformity and runs very quietly. Its features include an icemaker, spillproof shelves, digital controls, and a stainless-steel finish. Sears is selling this model for 48 percent off its list price.

Kenmore top-freezer refrigerator, 33 inches wide

Sears is selling this Kenmore top-freezer for almost 50 percent off its list price. In our tests, it rates Excellent for energy efficiency, but its temperature uniformity is lackluster, meaning its susceptible to developing warm and cold spots. This model offers plenty of features though, such as an icemaker, an internal water dispenser, spillproof shelving, and digital controls.

LG 3-door French-door refrigerator, 30 inches wide
The deal:
$1,095 to $1,100 at Appliances Connection, Home Depot, and Best Buy

If you need a narrow French-door, consider this deal on a 30-inch LG for about $600 off its list price. It offers superb performance in our temperature tests and rates an Excellent for noise. Though it lacks a through-the-door water/ice dispenser, it still gives you an icemaker, half shelves, spillproof shelves, and digital controls, all wrapped up in a stainless steel finish.

LG 4-door French-door refrigerator, 36 inches wide

$1,995 to $2,000 at AJ Madison, Home Depot, Lowes, and Best Buy

For a premium French-door model, check out this four-door LG. It offers superb performance in our temperature tests and receives a Very Good rating for ease of use. This model is also full of features, including unique adjustable shelving that can be raised or lowered without your having to remove any food, a through-the-door water/ice dispenser, half shelves that can be raised or lowered, an air filter, and a temperature-controlled full-width deli drawer. This LG usually lists for $3,100, so youre saving about $1,100.

Best Range Sales

There are lots ofrangeson sale this weekend from some of the biggest retailers of major appliances. You'll find some of the best deals on ranges that typically sell for $1,000 or more, often with savings in excess of $300. Here are the six best deals on CR-tested models we found on gas and electric ranges.

Frigidaire electric range
The deal:

A slide-in range is more expensive than a traditional freestanding model with a back panel, but thisgorgeous modelis priced about $500 less than its regular price. In addition to good looks, this range has exceptional performance, including a rating of Excellent for broiling and Very Good for baking. It has convection, a storage drawer, and even an air fry setting in the oven, so you dont need a separate countertop air fryer.

Frigidaire slide-in gas range
The deal:$893 to $900 atA.J. Madison,Best Buy,Home Depot, andSears

You rarely find a slide-in range for under $1,000, butthis modelis being offered for about $400 less than its regular price. Lowes is the only major retailer where this model isnt on saleits still available but for over $1,200. In addition to its good looks, this range offers strong performance, particularly on the cooktop, where it earns ratings of Very Good in both our low- and high-heat tests. It has a storage drawer under the oven, too.

GE gas range
The deal: $543 to $550 atA.J. Madison,Best Buy,Home Depot, andLowes

This stainlessrangeis a solid deal at its every day price of around $680. Its an even better value at $550 or less. Performance is strong across the board, especially when it comes to the lower burner settings youd use for simmeringthis range earns a rating of Excellent in our cooktop low test.

LG electric range
The deal:

This LGis the range to beat if youve got electric and want two ovens. The savings of around $180 off its regular price is a decent deal, particularly when you consider that its regular price is already pretty low for a double-oven range. Performance is superb, particularly on the cooktop, where this model garners ratings of Excellent in both our low- and high-heat tests. It has two ovens, both with convection, as well as digital controls, die-cast knobs, and even on-board diagnostics for troubleshooting.

Samsung electric range
The deal:
$598 to $600 atBest Buy,Home Depot,Lowes, andSears

This Samsungis a good deal at its regular price of between $650 and $700; for $600, its an even better buy. IIts a great performer with a surprising number of features. It has a convection oven, die-cast knobs, and multiple expanding cooktop elements to adapt to different size pans. Performance is solid and you get a particularly cavernous oven, helping this model earn a rating of Excellent in our oven capacity test, which measures the actual usable baking area.

Samsung gas range
The deal:
$645 to $650 atA.J. Madison,Best Buy,Home Depot, andLowes
CRs test results:Samsung NX58H5600SS
This stellargas rangeoffers a lot for the money, especially at $250 off its regular price. It has convection, continuous grates so you can easily move cookware across the surface of the stove, and an integrated griddle on the cooktop. The oven is especially strong, with ratings of Very Good for both baking and broilinga rare feat for a gas range at any price.

Best Washing Machine Sales

Electrolux front-loader
The deal: $698 at AJ Madison, Home Depot, and Lowe's
CRs test results: Electrolux EFLW427UIW
This washer sold for $1,000 lately, so at $698, its a great deal and even lower than its Black Friday price. Cleaning is impressive. Electrolux front-loaders earn a Very Good rating in predicted reliability, according to data from CRs member survey. Wash time is 90 minutes, and claimed capacity is 4.3 cubic feet.
Matching dryer: Electrolux EFME427UIW (electric) and Electrolux EFMG427UIW (gas). Electrolux gas dryers earn a subpar rating in reliability and CR cannot recommend them at this time.

GE agitator top-loader
The deal: Around $527 at AJ Madison, Amazon, Best Buy, Home Depot, and Lowes
CRs test results: GE GTW465ASNWW
Most washers hovering around $500 in our ratings arent worth calling out. This GEagitator is an exception. It earns a Good rating in washing performance, as many in this category do, but where it really stands out is speed. It takes just 35 minutes to do a loadhalf the time of some other models we test. Youre saving $128 off the usual price of $655. Claimed capacity is 4.5 cubic feet.
Matching dryer: GE GTD45EASJWS (electric) and GE GTD45GASJWS (gas). Note that GEs gas dryers cannot be recommended at this time because of a subpar predicted reliability rating.

LG front-loader
The deal: $809 at AJ Madison,Best Buy, Home Depot, Lowes, and Sears
CRs test results: LG WM3500CW
High-scoring washers often cost around $900 or more. Weve seen the price for this washer fluctuate a lot, but its a good deal at $809. It snags an Excellent rating in washing performance. However, wash time is a rather long 105 minutes. Claimed capacity is 4.5 cubic feet.

LG front-loader
The deal: Around $748 at AJ Madison, Best Buy, Home Depot, Lowes, and Sears
CRs test results: LG WM3700HWA
This washer performs similarly to the LG above in every test and has the same capacity of 4.5 cubic feet. But its faster, clocking in at 95 minutes in our tests using the normal-wash/heavy-soil setting. LG is the most reliable front-loader brand, according to our member survey, earning an Excellent rating for predicted reliability.

LG HE top-loader
The deal: $648 at Best Buy, Home Depot, Lowes, and Sears
CRs test results: LG WT7100CW
This washer is a CR Best Buy, combining impressive performance and an appealing price, even when it sold for $720. At $648, its even more appealing. This HE top-loader is one of the few we test to earn an Excellent rating in washing performance. Wash time is 75 minutes, and claimed capacity is 4.5 cubic feet.

LG HE top-loader
The deal: $600 at Best Buy
CRs test results: LG WT7500CW
This is a terrific price for this high-scoring HE top-loader, and it performs similarly to the LG HE top-loader above in most tests; this washer earns a Very Good rating in washing performance while the one above snags an Excellent rating. But this LG boasts a capacity of 5.2 cubic feet, which is big enough to fit a king-size comforter (our tests found that any washer over 4.5 cubic feet can). Wash time is 80 minutes using the normal-wash/heavy-soil setting, but faster if you choose the normal-soil setting. The TurboWash option speeds up wash time and in our tests, didnt affect wash performance.

Maytag front-loader
The deal: $748 at Best Buy, Home Depot, and Lowes
CRs test results: Maytag MHW6630HW
Weve seen this washer sell for $900 in recent months, so $748 is a great discount. It aces our washing performance tests, and is one of the front-loaders to earn a top rating in our vibration tests. Maytag front-loaders garner a Very Good rating for predicted reliability. Cycle time is 95 minutes, and claimed capacity is 4.8 cubic feet, big enough to fit a king-size comforter.

Maytag front-loader
The deal:Around $697 at Best Buy, Home Depot, and Lowes

This is a CR Best Buy at its usual price of $810. Youre saving $113 here. It performs similarly to the Maytag above in most tests, earning a Very Good rating in our noise tests. Youll hear it working, but it shouldnt disturb you with annoying, sustained noise. Capacity is 4.5 cubic feet.

Maytag agitator top-loader
The deal: $649 at Best Buy and Lowes
CRs test results: Maytag MVWB865GW
This Maytag had been selling for $900 in recent months, and the $649 sale price matches the Black Friday deals we spotted. It earns a Good rating in washing performance, meaning it can handle most loads well, but has a tougher time with heavy stains. Unlike most washers in this category, this Maytag offers impressive water and energy efficiency, extracting much of the water from laundry so that drying time is faster. It has a 5.2-cubic-foot capacity and wash time is 70-minutes.
