San Antonio Charter Moms Launches New Summer Learning Platform

San Antonio Charter Moms sets the course to help families and caregivers Charter a Summer of Learning with a newly launched summer campaign offering an array of daily activities, guest interviews and online support to keep children active, learning, and having fun while practicing safe social distancing.

One-Stop Summer Guide

With a new theme every day, San Antonio Charter Moms has designed the summer guide to serve as a one-stop-shop with each topic tailored to appeal to multiple age ranges. The nonprofit’s newly designed webpage includes two months of creative activities June 1, 2020 through July 31, 2020. There is a little something for everyone with special guest contributors and staff sharing their expertise and passions on a wide range of topics through daily Facebook Live video interviews, a calendar of activity guides launched each week, and online discussion groups, making the campaign easy for busy parents and restless kids.

“This summer, many families are faced with the challenge to keep children active and entertained while opting to forego summer camps, cancel travel plans and avoid public gatherings altogether. Couple that challenge with parents juggling work schedules, and it’s easy to become overwhelmed. We hope to be a valued resource to easily create learning moments that will become cherished summer memories down the road,” said Inga Cotton, Founder and Executive Director of San Antonio Charter Moms.

In This Together Through Online Community

San Antonio Charter Moms offers several online communities designed to fulfill the nonprofit’s mission of being the most trusted information source on education in the region. The Facebook discussion group serves as a sounding board and support group to more than 6,500 members seeking guidance on everything from pandemic parenting, navigating school choice options for the fall, virtual summer camps, cultural enrichment activities and much more. Charter Moms Chats includes live conversations on Facebook every weekday at 9 a.m. where Cotton and guests walk families through summer learning activities, answer viewers questions and share additional learning resources. The education-focused nonprofit reaches a digital audience of more than 20,500 through its various social media channels, website, school finder mobile app and e-newsletter.

Pulse on Parents and Caregivers

The nonprofit’s online platforms are typically buzzing this time of year with families seeking guidance on where to send their children to school in the fall. With so much uncertainty surrounding the 2020-2021 school year, a different conversation has emerged. This spring, Cotton and her team moved to the front lines to guide families through the many challenges of distance learning, offering resources and insight based on research, online polling and Cotton’s own experiences with homeschooling in the past. The conversation continues to evolve now taking on a more adventurous summer tone while simultaneously tackling tough parenting topics so many are facing during these uncertain times.

“We are finding that one thing is ringing true with so many in our online communities, there has never been a better time to talk to your children and take advantage of the additional time on our hands. We have their attention; with the right tools, we can easily create memorable learning moments for our children and a fantastic summer for the whole family,” said Cotton.

About San Antonio Charter Moms:

San Antonio Charter Moms (SACM) began as a blog in 2012 when Founder Inga Cotton was inspired to help San Antonio families more easily find good information about high-quality school options. Starting with a focus on the growing local charter school offerings, the blog has evolved into a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that shares fair information about all types of schools. Established in 2018 as a nonprofit, SACM can accept funding that enables it to grow in ways that support accomplishing its mission of being the most trusted information source on education in the region. This growth includes Spanish-language blog post translations, surveying target publics, holding meetings with decisionmakers, supporting public speaking, community outreach and enhancing mobile technology.
